EFFECT OF ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS DRUG ON SERUM ELECTROLYTES LEVELS, OSMOLARITY, BLOOD PH AND PCO, LEVELS IN TUBERCULOSIS PATIENTS

S.S. WARKE AND Z.H. KHAN

Abstract

To check effect of anti-tuberculosis drugs, blood samples of tuberculosis patients were collected prior to start of drug therapy. Analyzed for serum Osmolality, pH and PCO,. Serum samples were also checked for serum Electrolytes levels. Post treatment serum and blood samples were also analysed for same parameters. A remarkable raise in PCO2level was observed each month in blood samples from 15 days post treatment till 4 month. No significant change has been observed in blood pH patients. However change have been observed in st.lurn osmolality. It increases by 8.33% on 15 days post treatment period which decrease and come to zero days levels on 2 months of post treatment. Gradual raise in serum Na+ and C1-levels were found while serum K- levels, shows fluctuation from zero day post treatment to 4 month post treatment period. In respiratory dysfunction many critically ill patients with sever pulmonary disease have a low or normal PCO2. Hence in zero day sample (Prior to start treatment) the PCO2level was 26.6 mmHg. However the level raised in post therapy upto 39.2 mmHg. is an indication of establishment of proper function of binding capacity of blood by treatment with drugs.
