TWO NEW SPECIES OF PROTOZOAN CILIATES FROM THE RUMEN OF INDIAN CATTLE. BOS INDICUS

Abstract

Morphology of rumen ciliates Entodinium bilateromonolobum sp. nov. and Entodinuim bilaterodilobum sp. nov. are described from rumen of Indiai Cattle (Bos indicus) in Hingoli district of Maharashtra State (India). E. bilateromonolobum is characterized by having oval body which is differentiated into two lateral regions; a thick wing like ventral region and a thin dorsal region. The ventral region terminating posteriorly into a short and tringular lobe. The macronucleus is wedge shaped. E. bilaterodilobum is distinguished by having elongated body differentiated into two lateral regions; ventral thick and dorsal thin. The ventral region terminating into two small bud like lobes. The macronucleus is elongated and rod shaped.
