ADITI, ALKA, K.S. BOORA AND K. CHAUDHARY

Abstract

A thermophilic Bacillus sp, F6 was isolated from soil and characterized for the production of a- amylase at 50°C under submerged culture conditions. Bacillus sp. F6 was able to grow up to 60°C but did not show growth at 37°C. The optimum period for maximum cell growth and amylase production was found to be 32h at 50°C. The optimum pH for amylase activity was 4.8 at 50°C. The enzyme was found to be stable beLween a temperature range of 50°C to 80°C Bacillus sp. F6 produced maximum amylase when fermentation medium contained starch and ammonium chloride at concentration of 2% and 0.1% respectively.
