Their unique Physico-chemical and physiological condition impose restrictions on the living organisms. Chunnambar estuary is considered a dying estuary due to the anthropological onslaughts by the urban Pondicherry. Inspite of this situation, the species diversity and richness is still significant calling for urgent conservation efforts.
