M. MAITENDRA, S. LOKESH AND R. RAVISHANKAR RAI

Abstract

Seeds treated with hot water at 50°C showed enhancement in the percentage of germination. Seeds treated with 0.2% Bavistin showed maximum reduction in the incidence of fungi, there by enhanced the germination to a greater extent. In the seed samples, different fungi like Aspergilhis niger, A. flavus, A.flavus-oryzae, A. columnaris, A. ochraceus, Penicillium spp. Fusarium monilzforme, F. solani and F. oxysporum were recorded at various levels. Leaf extracts of Azadirachta indica, Clerodendron inerme, Tridax procumbens and Plumbago zeylanica showed little effect on mycoflora. Comparatively, the best results were obtained with the seeds treated with 0.2% Bavistin. Seedlings of Gmelina arborea and Bauhinea variegata raised in nursery beds showed high incidence of leaf blight. Powdery mildew in Bauhinea varigata and Fusarium wilt in Hardwickia bipinnata were also noticed at high incidence. In Dalbergia latifoha dead seedlings showed high incidence of Aspergillus flavus-oryzae.
