DIFFERENTIAL REPRODUCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF NATURALLY INHABITED FAIRY SHRIMP STREPTOCEPHALLIS DICHOTOMLIS BAIRD FROM VARIOUS LOCATIONS

B. JFSI SELVARANI

Abstract

Freshwater anostracans occur in a wide variety of shallow and temporary fresh water biotopes, that periodically dry up completely or partially. The present paper highlights the fecundity studies of naturally inhabited fairy shrimps from four different sites. Under field observations the length of male and female, length of brood pouch, no. of eggs per pouch, cyst diameter showed considerable difference freshwater branchiopod species. Brendonck (1991) reviewed fecundity data from mixed laboratory and field observations in fairy shrimps and compared them to laboratory observations of the Sudanese fairy shrimp Streptocephalus probascidetts (Frauenf.).
