Abstract

Because of numerous criteria and parameters, landfill sitting is a complex, expensive and time-consuming process. Geographic information system (GIS) is an effective tool for spatial data management and application that need less time and cost; it can locate more number of suitable sites for solid waste landfill. The study aims to identify a suitable landfill site for waste disposal in Ramhormoz city, east of Khuzestan province, Iran. In this city, municipal and household waste generated per capita is 800 g/person/day. Current waste disposal site is located in the hills 30 km West of Ramhormoz, which has been used since 2006. For municipal solid waste landfill, has been using geographical information system (GIS) and FAHP logic, uses Expert choice software. In the study, twelve layers were provided input to GIS. Criteria that were used include Hydrology and Hydrogeologycal, environmental, economical, soil characteristics and climate. The output map is divided into 3 classes: “unsuitable, moderately suitable, and suitable” according to their suitability for solid waste landfill.
