Abstract

The field experiment was conducted during 2010-11 at Main Agricultural Research Station Farm, Raichur, Karnataka (India) to study the effect of different herbicides for weed control in rabi/summergroundnut (Arachis hypogaeaL.) under irrigation. The results indicated that pod yield differed significantly due to weed control treatments. The treatments which received Pendimethalin (38.7 % CS) followed by different post-emergence (POE) herbicides were recorded significantly higher pod yield (26.33, 26.85, 27.05 and 28.17 q ha -1 , respectively) compared to the treatments which received pre-emergent (PRE) herbicides alone (20.88, 21.77, 22.28 and 18.70 q ha -1 , respectively) and the treatments which received post-emergence alone (17.84, 18.94, 18.92 and 19.15 q ha -1 , respectively) except weed free check (T 14 ) which recorded significantly higher pod yield (29.52 q ha -1 ) compared to all other treatments. Weedy check (T 13 ) recorded significantly lowest pod yield (7.36 q ha -1 ) compared to rest of the treatments. The yield parameters viz., number of pods per plant, pod weight, 100-kernel weight, shelling percentage and pod yield were significantly higher in weed free check and treatments which received PRE application of herbicides followed by POE application of herbicides at 25-30 days after sowing.
