ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF ACALYPHA ALNIFOLIA KLEIN EX WILLD LEAF EXTRACTVASTHI KENNEDY EVANJELENE AND DEVARAJAN NATARAJANAbstract Antioxidants are vital substances which possess the ability to protect the body from damages caused by free-radical induced oxidative stress. A variety of antioxidants is found in dietary sources like fruits, vegetables and tea. The purpose of present study was to examine and determine in vitro antioxidant potential of methanol and aqueous extracts of Acalypha alnifolia, and to determine the IC50 values. The nitric oxide, super oxide and hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging assay were also analyzed. The best IC50 value was noticed in methanol extract of all tests i.e., scavenging activity of nitric oxide (>1000mg/mL), hydrogen peroxide (550mg/mL), super oxide (44.33mg/mL) respectively. The overall results highlight that methanolic extract possess higher antioxidant activity than aqueous extract.
