Abstract

The experiment consisting of 20 linseed strains/varieties were during rabi 2012-13. The characters studied were early plant vigour, days to 50% flowering, plant height (cm), number of capsules per plant, 1000-seed weight (g) and seed yield per plant (g). ANOVA of experiments indicated highly significances among treatments for all the characters except 1000-seed weight. Wide range of variation was found plant height, number of capsules per plant 1000-seed weight. Phenotypic coefficients of variability (PVC) were higher than genotypic coefficients of variability (GCV) for all the characters. Estimates of heritability (broad sense) ranged from 1.70 (1000-seed weight) to 90.30 (number of capsules/ plant). The genetic advance in per cent of mean ranged from 0.44 (1000-seed weight) to 39.59 (seed yield/plant). Present investigation also showed that factors other than geographic diversity such as genetic drift, selection pressure and environment may be responsible for variation between the genotypes.
