A QUANTITATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF 'HOT WATER TREATMENT' ON PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA BIOFILM USING ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPYG. PANNEERSELVAM, ASHWIN KANNAN AND PENNATHUR GAUTAMAbstract In this study, the effect of hot water treatment on the adhesion force of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 2297) biofilm was studied using Atomic Force Microscopy. The adhesion force of four day old biofilm decreased from 11.6 ± 0.2 nN to 6.6 ±0.4 nN after incubation in hot water for one day at 50oC. The adhesion force further decreased to 2.1±0.1 nN after incubation in hot water for two days at 50oC. The results suggest that the adhesion force of biofilm may be reduced by incubating biofilm sample in hot water.
