QUANTITATIVE EVALUATION FOR REDUCTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS IN THE PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE OF A MONOBLOCK PUMPP. Prathap and D. SenthilkumaranAbstract Manufacturing industries are more concerned about environmental sustainability and conducting several experiments, product evaluation tests for their products due to increase in environmental awareness. The environmental impacts namely Carbon footprint (CO2), Water eutrophication (PO4), Air acidification (SO2) and Total energy consumption (MJ) have become a challenge to the manufacturing industries. This paper explores the practical application of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of monoblock pump sub-assemblies. The system boundaries starts from its extraction and production of raw materials, manufacturing of main parts, assembly and use of product, disposal and recycle of scrap during end of life. This investigation was carried out in alternate materials, for selected subassemblies by using solid works sustainability Xpress quantification tool. This analysis has revealed that there are appreciable reductions in emission of CO2, PO4, SO2 and total energy consumption.
