BIODIVERSITY AND THREAT BENCHMARKING OF TICAO ISLAND, MASBATE, PHILIPPINES USING PARTICIPATORY AND LANDSCAPE APPROACHESHilconida P. Calumpong and Edna R. SabaterAbstract Upland and coastal ecosystems in Sitio Baladingan, Barangay Famosa, Municipality of Monreal in Ticao Island, Masbate, Philippines were assessed with the participation of stakeholders from the national agency (DENR), local government units, and community. Participants were trained on methods of benchmarking and participated in assessing five ecosystems from ridge (limestone forest) to reef, including mangrove forests, sea grass beds and open water, and the resources therein as well as threats. The goal of this activity was to develop capacity for management and enhance public appreciation of the areas biodiversity.
