ASSESSMENT OF FISH DIVERSITY OF CHHIRPANI RESERVOIR, KAWARDHA, (CHHATTISGARH), INDIA

Abstract

The present investigation was carried out in Chhirpani reservoir in Dist. Kabirdham, Chhattisgarh during the study period. It was observed that the 27 species of commercially finfishes belonging to families: Cyprinidae , Heteropneustidae, Siluridae, Bagridae, Channidae, Cichlidae, Mastacembelidae, Notopteridae, Anabantidae, Clariidae, pangasiidae families and Cypriniformes, Siluriformes, Channiformes, Perciformes, Synbranchiformes, Osteoglossiforms, Channiformes, order were recorded among then Cypriniformes represented (14) species fallowed by Siluriforms (06) species and Channiformes (03) species, Perciformes (03) species, Synbranchiformes (01) contributed one species each, this indicated that the greater fish biodiversity in Chharpani fish landing center finally it maybe concluded that the Chhirpani reservoir is rich in fish diversity ant it still in a position to set a good example of conservation of native fish fauna by the sustainable management practices.
