Abstract

A field investigation was carried out at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyala, Raipur during kharif season of 2012 to study the effect of date of planting (August 9, August 18 and August 27) and weed management practices (Weedy check, Hand weeding at 20 DAS, pendimethalin (PE) @ 1 kg ha-1, pendimethalin (PE) @ 1 kg ha-1 + HW at 25 DAS, imazethapyr 35% + imazamox 35% (Odyssey 70 WG) @ 75 g ha-1 20 DAS, imazethapyr 35% + imazamox 35% (Odyssey 70 WG) @ 75 g ha-1 20 DAS + HW at 35 DAS, pendimethalin (PE) @ 1 kg ha-1 + imazethapyr 35% + imazamox 35% (Odyssey 70 WG) @ 75 g ha-1 20 DAS, and Chemical stale seed bed (Glyphosate @ 1200 g ha-1 10 days before planting), on growth and yield of blackgram under late sown condition. Results revealed that plant height, branches plant-1, number and dry weight of nodules, seed yield, Stover yield and harvest index were the highest under earliest sowing date i.e. August 9 which ultimately gave the highest yield. Though, a slight reduction in yield was observed under August 18 sowing but drastic reduction in yield occurred if the under delayed sowing. Among weed management practices, significantly greater plant height, higher number of branches, dry matter accumulation, number of nodules, dry weight of nodules, seed yield, stover yield and harvest index were obtained under imazethapyr 35% + imazamox 35% (Odyssey 70 WG) @ 75 g ha-1 20 DAS + HW at 35 DAS (W6) followed by pendimethalin (PE) @ 1 kg ha-1+ HW at 25 DAS (W4) and minimum was obtained under weedy check (W1).
