POTENTIAL OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE TO MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE

Abstract

Organic agriculture, as a strategy to mitigate climate change, is a valuable option for rural communities in developing countries. This article is a short review highlighting this fact. Organic agriculture is a well established sustainable livelihood strategy with decades of use in several climate zones and under a wide range of specific local conditions and has a vast potential to act as a tool to address the problem of Climate Change. The indigenous traditional practices of Organic Agriculture prevalent in some regions have been playing a important role in alleviating the impacts of climate change. The constraints and the interventions needed to popularise and increase the awareness among the stake holders about the potential of Organic agriculture are also discussed.
