Abstract

Bio fertilizers are Eco-friendly organic agro-input and more cost effective than chemical fertilizers. Specific types of bacteria, fungi, algae and vermincompost are in use since long time ago. Success of utilization of bio fertilizers is primarily based on formulation. The present study is carried out to prepare biocompatible polymer hydrogel phosphorous rich vermicopost and evaluation of phosphorous release under in vitro and in vivo condition. Optimization of hydrogel was carried with different concentrations of polymers, fertilizer, stabilizer, cross linker. 10 g of starch, 1g of chitosan, 2mL of acetic acid 1.5% glutaraldehyde and 10% acetic acid yield distinct hydrogels with high water retention, water absorptions. Biodegradation or disintegration was observed at 18 -21 days. Phosphorus release study revealed a gradual increase in release during the increased incubation time period.
