SIMULATION OF FLOOD EVENT IN BASIN SCALE USING HECHMS AND GISArmin Bani Bayat and Zakaria ZoorasnaAbstract In order to control flood in the structural and non-structural methods, we need to predict the flooding potential in watersheds accurately. The purpose of this study is simulating the flood event based on HECHMS hydrological model accompanying with GIS in the Temer watershed. In this regard, using topography maps the basin DEM in the software environment was prepared and using the prepared DEM, the streams and the sub-basins maps were extracted and by integrating the soil hydrological maps, the land uses and the humidity data and the CN map of the Temer sub-basins were prepared. Then, using the rainfall and observed runoff data, stability of the basin was validated in HEC-HMS. Comparison showed that, the SCS method in HEC-HMS by considering the basin physiographical characteristics, estimated the flood accurately. The results showed that, the basin output hydrograph is very suitable and the estimation error is less that 15% which is an acceptable value.
