Abstract

Prunus cerasus is an important broad leaved tree species growing under the temperate conditions of Kashmir valley. A study was conducted at the Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K, Shalimar, Srinagar regarding the propagation of Prunus cerasus through its seed in order to have an insight into its relative growth performance. The seeds of Sour cherry were sown in open nursery beds, root-trainers and poly bags simultaneously and morph metric parameters of these nursery raised seedlings were compared after one growing season. The results of this study revealed that seedlings performed better in case of open nursery beds wherein the maximum value of almost all tested parameters was obtained compared to those raised in poly bags and root-trainers.
