Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the personal and socio-economic status, adoption level and constraints faced by vegetable growers in adoption of improved cultivation practices in Kalaburgi district of Karnataka. The study revealed that most of the respondents were middle aged, literates having small sized families with large form size possessing farm plough and seed drill and own one or two bore well irrigation facilities. Majority of the respondents adopted improved varieties and irrigation management and they neglected improved practices in nursery raising and integrated pest management. They face major technical constraints in seed choice, seed rate, and irrigation schedule and pest management. High cost of inputs was the major economic constraint, storage, lack of processing unit and commission agent entry in marketing is another constraint.
