DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF TRACTOR OPERATED RAIN-GUNNagesh Kumar, T., M. Veerangouda, Sushilendra, Satyanarayan and Mareppa, N.B.Abstract A tractor operated rain-gun was developed to provide supplemental irrigation to the field crops. A centrifugal pump (7.5 hp) was mounted at the rear of the tractor and pelican rain-gun sprinkler was fitted to water tank which is trailed by tractor. The power transmission is from tractor PTO to centrifugal pump through belt and pulley. 50 hp tractor was used as a power unit for both for trailing water tanker and operating centrifugal pump. Various parameters such as discharge, diameter of coverage, area coverage and application rate were measured. The average discharge of the raingun was 1.5, 2.4 and 2.7 l/s for nozzle size of 12 mm at 3, 4 and 5 kg/cm2. The average values of water application rate were 17.55, 16.99 and 16.28 mm/h for 12 mm nozzle.
