BACKWARD AND FORWARD LINKAGES OF POMEGRANATE PRODUCTION IN NORTH GUJARAT

Abstract

Pomegranate is one of the important fruit crop of Gujarat state. Now-a-days in Gujarat, pomegranate crop is cultivated on the commercial basis and exported to various countries. In Gujarat, area under pomegranate cultivation is 4638 hectare and production is about 50255 metric tones. In Sabarkantha and Banaskantha area under pomegranate cultivation is 142 and 400 hectares as well as their production is 715 and 2800 metric tones respectively. The effective functional linkage is essential for the prosperous growth of pomegranate industry in the country as it has high export potential. In the light of this, the present study was under taken with an emphasis of analyzing of functional linkage of pomegranate growers with different systems / institutions.
