EFFECT OF LIGHT/DARK CYCLES AND PH ON BIOMASS OF CYANOBACTERIA (ANABAENA AMBIGUA) GROWN IN AN EXTERNAL-LOOP AIRLIFT PHOTO BIOREACTORM.B. Venkataramanareddy, S.S. Lakshmana Rao and C.S. RaoAbstract Microalgae biotechnology is on the anvil for various commercial applications used for pharmaceutical applications. Light intensity and pH play an important role in the growth of microalgae. In the present study an optimal light intensity of 80μmol/m2s is maintained and biomass formation of Anabaena ambigua is evaluated at different light/dark cycles of 6:18,12:12,18:6,24:0 (continuous illumination) at different pH combinations(7.0,7.43,8.0) in an external –loop airlift photo bioreactor, Specific growth rate of 0.389day-1, doubling time of 42.75hrs and the lipid content of 27.6 mg/L is obtained at light/ dark cycle of (18:6) and pH of 7.43 among the different combinations studied.
