PALYNOLOGY STUDIES TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY OF TOMATO HYBRID SEED PRODUCTIONSujatha Patta, Alice K. Vari, Tomar, B.S. and Balraj SinghAbstract Pollen storage and pollen viability studies were carried out to standardize the optimum duration of pollen storage and its effect on the tomato hybrid seed production technology of Pusa Hybrid-4 under green house. One day stored pollen showed highest efficiency as 65.33 percent fruit set, 74.16 grams fruit weight and 76.87 numbers of seeds per fruit as compared to fresh pollen and aged pollen. With the advance in pollen age, hybridization efficiency was decreased. Pollen storage had showed significant effect on the seed quality parameters. More than 50 percent pollen viability was observed for 15 days under both ambient and refrigerator storage conditions and there was a decrease in the pollen viability afterwards under ambient conditions.
