Arvind Singh Chauhan, S.N. Ojha and Arpita Sharma

Abstract

The basic intention of the present research was to explore the association between self-efficacy and motivation (independent variable) and empowerment (dependent variable) of the fishers of Tehri reservoir of Uttarakhand. A Structured questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument and total samples selected for the study were 80. SPSS 16.0 was used to analyze data. The study reveals that independent variables namely self-efficacy and motivation had positive and significant relationship with empowerment (dependent variable). Among the independent variables, self-efficacy contributed 50.60%, and motivation is contributing only 5.80% respectively to the explained variance of 56.40%. Hence, there is a high dependency of empowerment of fishers upon their level of self-efficacy. On the other hand there is are certain elements, which will lead to empower the fishers through community organisation, resource allocation, formation of SHGs, capacity building, training, education and participation in decision making process.
