Abstract

The present investigation was conducted at Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, during 2011-2012. The main aim of study was to evaluate gladiolus genotypes for corm and cormel production. All the parameters such as Number of corms per corm, Weight of corm (g), Corm diameter (cm), Number of cormels per corm, Weight of cormel (g), Cormel diameter (cm) were found significant. Genotype ‘Arka Amar’ produced the maximum corms per mother corm (2.91). Genotype ‘IIHRG-12’ recorded the maximum corm weight (87.77 g, maximum corm diameter (6.62 cm), highest number of cormels (45.40) per corm, maximum cormel diameter (1.39 cm). Genotype ‘Arka Aayush’ produced the maximum weight of cormel (1.17 g). The promising genotypes viz., ‘Arka Amar’ and ‘IIHRG-12’ can be used for commercial cultivation and in varietal improvement programme for corm and cormel production.
