Mansour Taghvaei and Atefeh Nasrolahizadehi

Abstract

Seed germination is affected by environmental factors. Temperature is a crucial factor governing the maximum germination percentage and germination rate. The objective of this study was to identify the base, optimum, and maximum germination temperatures of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. from two seed sources, in order to establish models applicable in predicting seeding dates. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications. The treatments consisted of four repetitions of the two regions and eight temperature treatments. The result showed that seed germination behavior was affected by seed source climate. The base and optimum temperatures of tow seed sources were 5 and 30, respectively, the but maximum temperatures were affected by seed sources as they were 53.75 and 51.75 °C the maximum temperature of Sistan Baluchestan (Zabolseed source) and Fars (Firuzabad seed source) were respectively.
