DESIGN OF BIOGAS SCRUBBING SYSTEM AND MEASUREMENT OF PRESSURIZED BIOGAS FLOW

C. Vijayanand and M. Singaravelu

Abstract

The biogas synthesis in an industry through the wastes generated from its unit operations can in turn attend to the industry’s energy requirements. Effective utilization of biogas demands a quality improvement of enrichment of the biogas. The scrubbing of biogas is essential for different thermal and power applications. The energy content of enriched biogas is approximately 50 MJ/m3. The presence of CO2 and H2S in biogas thins out its energy content. The biogas generated from the sago effluent was enriched using a water scrubber by physical absorption. A biogas water scrubbing system was designed and commissioned in the industry. The biogas synthesised from the anaerobic digestion of sago effluent was enriched. An orifice meter was designed and fabricated based on ISO BS EN standard to determine the flow rate of pressurized biogas fed into the scrubber. The orifice meter coupled with a U-tube manometer was used to determine the mass flow rate of the biogas flowing at high pressure through a system. The cost economic of the system was also calculated for enrichment of biogas of 100 m3/day.
