IMPACT OF DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS OF HERBICIDES ON REDUCING RESIDUAL EFFECT ON SOIL AND ENHANCING MAIZE (ZEA MAYS L.) YIELD AND ENERGETICS.N. Honnali, D. G. Satihal, P.H. Kuchanur, Yogeshkumar Singh, S.G. Patil and M.L. JatAbstract The field experiment was conducted to know the effectiveness of weed control and energetics of herbicides, their combination and sequential application in maize during rainy seasons of 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013- 14 in Upper Krishna Irrigation Command, Bheemarayanagudi, Karnataka. Ten treatments consisted atrazine, alachlor and pendimethalin and their combinations at half the recommended dose or in sequence at recommended rates were tested using RCBD with three replications. Among the herbicidal treatments, besides higher maize kernel yield (5.83 t/ha), weed control efficiency (93.79 %), net return ( 52607 /ha), B: C ratio (2.27), lower weed dry matter (36.0 kg/ha) and weed index (1.02 %) tank mix atrazine + alachlor PRE at half the recommended dose (0.625+0.625 kg a.i. /ha) recorded higher output energy (85709 MJ/ha), net energy (74909 MJ/ha), energy use efficiency (7.94) and energy intensiveness ( 4.87/MJ) in comparison to other herbicides either alone, in combinations or sequence.
