Abstract

Present study was undertaken to study the effects of partial replacement of fish meal with Acetes meal on growth, feed utilization and survival of tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus). Advanced fry diet was examined. The experiments were conducted for 60 days in aquaria. Triplicates were maintained for each of the treatment. The six isonitrogenous experimental diets were prepared which included a control diet (100% fish meal) and five treatment diets viz. fish meal replaced with Acetes meal at 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of dietary protein levels respectively. The diets were formulated to provide 40% crude protein on a dry weight basis. Fish were fed experimental diets ad libitum for 60 days. The water quality parameters were found in the permissible range during entire experimental period. After the end of experiment it was found that the T0 control treatment lead to higher weight gain (257.65 ± 9.37), SGR (0.92 ± 0.02) and PER (0.92 ± 0.05), survival (100.00 ± 00) and lowest FCR (2.74 ± 0.13). Thus, it can be concluded from the study that Acetes meal is a potential protein source and can be used to substitute fish meal in the diets of Tilapia (O. mossambicus) advance fry.
