Abstract

Population increase and expansion of city lead to the growing problem in managing solid waste dumping. Nowadays handling of waste is creating more pollution and also disposal of them is a Himalayan task for the government. Garages which are dumped at various yards produce major health hazards and also damages to the environment life cycle. Vellalore dump yard is also an example where the solid waste dumped in the yard produces flying toxic ashes with foul stench and on account of barren plain terrain, and because of the slightly high wind speeds, the settlement nearby is very much affected. There are serious health hazards and concerns based on the estimation of premature mortality associated with PM 2.5 exposure. By erecting vertical axis wind turbines (savonius type) in the dump yard, as a long term plan, that is also for the benefits of residents of Vellalore, which definitely reduces the effect of pollution and as well as the production of green energy is very much possible.
