Abstract

The site selection is a multiplex and tedious process, which required assessment of several factors where many different characteristic are taken into account. Decision maker always have pitfall in making the right decision in multi characteristic environments. After identifying prospect sites, these sites should be ranked using decision making methods. This study implies fuzzy AHP-based multiple attributes decision making (MADM) method for selection of best site of landfills based on a set of decision criteria. By usingthe Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process the selected criteria were compared pair wise by domain experts for allotting weights to decision criteria. Pairwise comparisons and allotting weights for decision criteria was made by using Analytical hierarchy process. It will be easier for a decision maker to mark out value for alternative with help of linguistic terms and fuzzy number. In the fuzzy AHP approach, the rated alternatives are marked out using the expression of triangular fuzzy membership function. By AHP approach the global weightage of criteria was calculated and they were incorporated into decision matrices composed by decision maker and passed to fuzzy AHP approach, by which order of siting alternatives were ranked according to its weights. This method is used to determine preference order of siting alternatives.
