The people living in Sathiyar River basin in Madurai District are depending on their households needs, irrigation and other domestic purposes only river water and river water irrigated ponds, kanmai and lakes. But the water health of Sathiyar river is deteriorating every day by the anthropogenic activities such as point and non point source discharge of effluents from industries on river bed, runoff come from nearby agricultural land and nearby household sewage discharges. Hence, to monitor and simulate the water quality parameters is very important to ascertain whether the water is still fit for living things in all seasons. For this study, the water samples of Sathiyar river have been collected from upstream to downwards in various places along the river only in monsoon period. The physico-chemical parameters and coliform of the river water was analyzed.
