INSECT INFESTATION AND LOSSES IN STORED FOOD GRAINS

Abstract

Food grains are durables that can be stored for extended periods under safe storage condition. Various biotic and abiotic factors influence the quality of stored grains. Among these, pests of stored foods are serious threat. The objective of this work is to explain in detail, various losses caused by insect infestation including, quantitative, qualitative, nutritional, seed viability, commercial losses and damage to stored structures. Other associated problems such as explaining the need for integrated pest management approaches to protect food grains from storage pests.
