ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER QUALITY AND MAPPING USING GIS- A CASE STUDYP. ESHANTHINI, CHRISTINA MARY V. AND M. KALAIVANIAbstract Groundwater is the main source of drinking water around the world. This precious resource in several places becomes contaminated by improper sewage facilities, improper solid waste disposal and industrial waste. In this study an attempt is made to find the quality of water in downstream of Amaravathi river. The Ground water samples were collected from 20 locations in the downstream of Amaravathi river from different bore wells and open wells for 10 Km stretch of the river. The water samples were analyzed for different water quality parameters like EC, pH, TH, Ca, Na, K, Cl, TA and Mg. The results of the analysis shows that the parameters like Ec, TH, Cl and Mg exceed permissible limit. The ground water quality map for the study area was prepared by using ArcGis 9.3 which will be helpful to show the variation of ground water quality in the study area.
