SELECTING SUSTAINABLE ENERGETIC AND DESIGN PARAMETERS OF A SCREW EXTRUDER FOR BIO FUEL PRODUCTION

Andrei Nikulin and Kirill Epifancev

Abstract

Around 130 mln m3 of secondary organic wastes are generated in Russia annually. No more than 2% undergo industrial recycling, and all the rest is removed to dumps and landfills for disposal. Currently, a perspective and universal method to process solid combustible wastes into agglomerate fuel is pelletizing with screw extruders by applying bonding materials. The advantages of such an extruder in the production of agglomerate fuel include feeding continuity, tightness, simple design and integration into other equipment. The selection of screw extruder sustainable parameters by using power capacity parametrons reduces the production prime cost of 1 ton of finished products. Improving the design of the extruder output draw die ensures sealing the material at permitted engine loads. The article presents the results of computer modeling and full scale tests that allow determining the sustainable parameters of the molding process: current of 1.7 A, engine shaft speed of 40 rpm, and the extruder die block – R60, d1/d2=1/4.5. These parameters allow for the molding of solid organic wastes with a humidity of 70-72% in case of single processing.
