Abstract

Laboratory experiments and mathematical model were conducted to investigate the effects of over exploitation irrigation water in Lahmar oasis in Bechar, Algeria. To the best of the authorsÂ’ knowledge, there are no studies in the open literature on effects of overexploitation of irrigation water on salinity from Lahmar oasis in Bechar, Algeria. The results indicated that the water irrigation influenced the, electrical conductivity (EC) and pH. As the overexploitation of irrigation water increased, the average values of and EC in the 0,64 MS/m-1,07 MS/m also increased, while their average values in the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) 1.38-8.32 increased. The pH value also slightly increased (6.08-7.83). Numerical results obtained by the present investigation are compared with those in the results of National Agency of Resources Water (N.A.R.W, 2001) area in Bechar, Algeria. However, significant differences were observed after fifteen years of exploitation the irrigation water.
