ENERGY BALANCE ASSESSMENT OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE TO ENERGY FACILITYB. Manimekalai and Kurian JosephAbstract Waste to energy generation for sustainable management of municipal solid waste is the one of the objective of the present study. Therate at which waste received to the waste processing plant is approximately 200 tonnes per day which produces about 90 tons of refuse derived fuel per day. This paper deals with electricity requirement of various machineries, in-house units and energy generation from the RDF so as to assess the overall energy balance. One ton of municipal solid waste generating 0.50 ton of RDF which can generate 2 MW of power. On the other end, electricity consumption by the machinery and by the various units of the plant accounts to be 1KW. It is understood that 1.4 MW of power can be given to TNEB grid. The power generated from the plant is sufficient to run the plant and the remaining power can be given to TNEB grid.
