Abstract

On the recommendation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Scientists, Rural Agro Research and development society, Mundra and Kutch Nav Nirman Abhiyan, Bhuj constructed farm bunding in 50 ha under drought proofing programme in the village Hamiramora with the financial support of Ministry of Rural Development. The farm bunding is very effective tool to conserve soil and water in semi arid and arid region (rainfall < 500 mm). It has been found that 1m bund height is sufficient for this area. As a result of farm bunding, the average moisture content at 0-15 cm depth in without bunding field found 8.14 % and bunding fields was found approximately 12.37 % which is about 40% increase in the upper layer that is 0-15cm of the soil. Therefore, it is recommended that farm bunding may be encouraged in this area which not only conserve rain water but also reduces the soil erosion.
