CHAIRIL ZAMAN

Abstract

The study was aimed to prove the influences of exposure to rubber wood dust to the lung function of plywood industry worker. The study was carried out in the Plywood manufacture company which use rubber wood (Hevea brasiliensis) as the raw material located in Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatera Province. The total number of workers being studied in this study was 87 subjects. The inhalable dust was measured using a gravimetric method using areal and personal sampling. The parameters were age, sex, height, working duration, smoking habit and, spirometry values of FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC. The determination of abnormal spirometry was predicted in the nomogram of Indonesia. The study showed that the numbers of wood dust were calculated as 0.3(0.5) mg/m3 for personal dust and 0.7(0.4) mg/m3 for area dust that has a range of 0.060 – 1.250 mg/m3. The worker abnormal spirometry was 12.6 % in which the FVC and FEV1 spirometry and FEV1/FVC values showed the significant differences by sex and heigh, and age, respectively. Further analysis also supported that the exposure of wood dust influenced the lung function of the worker.
