RAVINDRA H. KAKADE,Y.D. BAFNA AND NIHAL SIDDIQUI

Abstract

Plastic industries involve processing of various plastic materials and are having large quantity of storage of raw materials and finished products in yards and warehouses which are combustible in nature. Plastic materials act as fuel and burn faster than other materials. Fuel is one of the elementsnecessary for occurrence of fire. Quantity and quality of fuel determine rate of spread and intensityof fire. It is of prime importance to conduct fire load assessment of such storage locations todetermine that an effective fire prevention strategy must be in place as an essential feature of fireprotection. The fire load assessment was carried out for plastic materials which are movable innature, i.e. finished goods kept in storage yards and warehouses. Study was carried out by usinginventory method. In these locations movable content contribute significant part of fire load ascompared to the immovable content.
