Abstract

The spatio-temporal monitoring of land use/land cover (LULC) andtheir negative impact on urban environment is an essential aspect for sustainable urban development and security for water and other natural resources. The present case study represents the spatio-temporal growth of Noida city, National Capital Region (NCR) from last one decade. Standard geospatial technology has been utilized for preprocessing satellite images and further classification. The city has experienced extensive conversion to natural urban land cover into anthropogenic land Use in last 10 years and the results observed from the classified temporal satellite data for year 2006 and 2016 were clearly shown that during the last one decade the growth of city increased manytime. The major positive changes were found in built-up (+40.43 %) and negative changes were found in the agriculture(-19.63 %),vegetation (-13.60 %) and water bodies (-0.86).On the basis of results observed from the analysis of temporal satellite data it is predicted that if the city will grow in the same pattern in future there will very serious problem on availability of water and issues related to environment.
