Abstract

In this paper, a new design for the micro needle array to extract the amniotic fluid from the trimester using piezoelectric pump has been proposed for the diagnosis of Down syndrome, which is a chromosomal anomaly disease. The array of microneedle used is made up of titanium as its biocompatible, non toxic and has high stiffness than that of the bone. The velocity and pressure distribution of the CFD analysis for the needle has been studied to analyze the feasibility and the advantage of using Titanium as the micro needle. Piezoelectric pump is used along with the microneedle for active fluid extraction at a faster rate. This proposed system can be used to extract the amniotic fluid to diagnose the chromosomal anomaly in the baby during the prenatal period. This analysis studies show that the array of microneedle with piezoelectric pump reduces the time consumption for fluid extraction which in turn leads to an earlier diagnosis of Down syndrome and keeps the mother and the child safer.
