SEAGRASS (ENHALUS ACOROIDES) SEEDS AS COMPLEMENTARY FOOD FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV-AIDS IN AMBON-MALUKUMARIA NINDATU1, FARAH CH. NOYA, DEBORAH LANTANG, MARTHA KAIHENA1 AND MARLENY LEASAAbstract - Purpose of this research is to analyze the efficacy of E. acoroides administration to Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Aquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV-AIDS) patients. The increasing of T Cell CD4 was evaluated as main indicator. Subjects of this research were HIV-AIDS patients who administered with ARVs (Anti Retro Virus) therapy in Dr. M. Haulussy hospital were divided into 2 (two) groups: (1) patients who take ARVs therapy and consume E. acoroides seagrass seeds and (2) patients who take ARVs therapy only. E. acoroides seeds were given once a day for 10 weeks as food supplement was given once a day as lunch for 10 weeks. There is significant improvement of T cell CD4 number of patients who consumed E. acoroides seeds compare to control group. The findings indicated potential efficacy of E. acoroides seeds in increasing the number of T-CD4 cells. There is significant improvement of T cell CD4 number of patients who consumed E. acoroides seeds compared to control group. The findings indicated potential efficacy of E. acoroides seeds in increasing the number of T-CD4 cells.
