Mohammadreza Monavari, Hamid Jafari and Mohammadali Ahmadian

Abstract

Today, rural tourism has become one of the leading economic activities with studies suggesting a positive relationship between rural tourism development with attracting tourists and increasing economic growth. Rural tourism can be a good solution for development, making money, and increasing employment. Rural tourism can include tourism activities, such as visits to rural residences, festivals, and various activities, which stimulate economic growth, diversification of activities, and creation of employment in rural areas. Chenaran is one of the rural tourism areas of Khorasan Razavi that annually welcomes thousands of tourists from other parts with its natural and human attractions, such as Milrakan, which has historic value. Chenaran also has villages such as Akhalmad with a natural waterfall and Seyed Abad with battlements that have doubled its charm and made the region a rural tourism hub. The main question of the study is what effects tourism has had on the reduction of rural migrations in the studied area. In this study, field and non-field methods were used to collect information. In the field method, a questionnaire was the research tool to test the hypothesis. The results showed that as a phenomenon, tourism affects the rural development process from different aspects, including economic, socio-cultural, and environmental, with enormous effects on the life of the village, each of which can be discussed for positive and negative effects. This could have a significant role in reducing the immigration rate of villagers.
