Abstract

Indoor airspora of two sites of central library of Warangal was analysed, during the period (March 2010 to February 2011). In all 30 fungal species representing 19 genera could be recorded. The mycoflora varied with the site of sampling. In general species of Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Alternaria, Penicillium, Curvularia and Trichoderma, were dominated and could be recorded throughout the observation period. On the other hand, species of Stachybotrys, Trichothecium, Drechslera, Candida, Mucor, Memnoniella and Chaetomium could be recorded only occasionally. No positive correlation could be observed among two sites of sampling. Air of stack rooms was more infected with moulds in comparison to the reference section. Some of the moulds like species of Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Trichoderma, are suspected to be responsible for allergicity. Species of Stachybotrys, Trichoderma and Aspergillus may also contribute to the deterioration of library books.
