THELOHANELLUS THOUBALENSIS SP.NOV. (CNIDARIA: MYXOSPOREA: MYXOZOA) INFECTING A FRESH WATER FISH PUNTIUS CHOLA HAMILTON, 1822 OF THOUBAL, MANIPURT. SONI, N. MOHILAL AND TH. HEMANANDAAbstract During a recent surveillance of Myxozoan parasites infecting the ornamental fishes from Manipur 50 numbers of Pontius chola (Hamilton, 1822) were examined for the presence of myxozoan infections. Results revealed the presence of a unique species of the genus Thelohanellus Kudo, 1933, housed inside cylindrical shaped plasmodia attached to the fin rays of the host fish. The spores were surrounded by a mucus envelope. Detailed comparision of morphometric account with related species revealed the species as new to science. The species is designated as Thelohanellus thoubalensis sp. nov. and is collected from Thoubal (24°38 09.72"N longitude and 94°0001.51"E latitude), Manipur, India.
