ANTHROPOGENIC IMPACT ON THE MEDICINAL PLANT WEALTH OF TANGMARG (GULMARG), JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIAAFROZA AKHTER, IRFANA AMIN QURESHI, ABDUL RASHID DAR, MOHAMMAD RAFIQ WANI, LUBNA ANDLEEB, NASEER HUSSAIN SHAH AND ARIF INAMAbstract For assessing the effect of various factors which have contributed to the loss of our natural resources particularly medicinal plant wealth, a detailed survey by way of enlisting medicinal flora at six localities of Tangmarg, 12 km downstream of famous tourist resort Gulmarg (39 km north of Srinagar) was conducted. Since a great variety of medicinal plants have been exposed to increased anthropogenic pressures, as a result large number of important species have become threatened and even some have become critically endangered. Out of total 62 medicinal plants enlisted in the present study, 6 were found to be critically endangered (CR), 10 endangered (EN), 06 vulnerable (VU), 27 rare (R) and 13 secure (S).
