Abstract

It has been realized that urbanization or shifting from rural to urban areas in the world in general and Asia-Africa in particular continues to be caused by poverty and related socio-economic factors. The City of Ambon, which is the capital of Maluku Province, is experiencing the same thing as the big cities in Indonesia and in the world. Therefore we need to know whether Green Open Space (GOS) in Ambon City at this time is sufficient or not. Suffiency of UGS in Ambon City can be known by spatial analysis in GIS. With the support of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) map, the Discomforbility Index (DI) map for observation at 09.00, 12.00 and 16.00 O’clock and overlaying the two maps can be known which areas are high DI and areas that lack vegetation including how big the extent. The results of this study indicate that DI of Ambon City is considered less comfortable as perceived by the population because of the limited UGS. In this case we need to find a solution by providing a broader UGS area and begin applying the concept of green infrastructure in every implementation of development in Ambon City.
