FAILURE REDUCTION ON THE OPERATIONAL TREATMENT OF DRINKING WATER REFILLS IN WONOKROMO SUBDISTRICT, SURABAYA, INDONESIA

HANIFAH MAPPANGARA AND NIEKE KARNANINGROEM

Abstract

The quality of drinking water refills is still a common problem in big cities, including Surabaya. It also happens in Wonokromo subdistrict, caused by the ideal operational system hasn’t been implemented. The impact is drinking water still exceeding the quality standard of Indonesia Ministry of Health Regulation No.492/MENKES/IV/2010 regarding drinking water quality requirements. Therefore, identify and analyze the cause of failure are necessity to determine the failure reduction. Failure identification started with laboratory analysis and interview using questionnaire to obtain supporting information. The questionnaire was made using Likert scale to simplify the assessment. Water quality and questionnaire results were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method using SmartPLS. SEM analysis consists of knowledge, behavior, disinfection and attitude as the exogenous latent variable. As a result, only 5 out of 30 drinking water stations met the quality standard for total coliform parameter. Based on SEM analysis, hypothesis test proves that significant effect to the biological parameter quality is contact time of ozone disinfection that has p-value less than 5%. In order to prevent the failure recur, it is necessary to make an improvement of ozone up to 30 minutes before used to optimize the contact time of ozone and treated water.
